Teaching Research Ethics Workshop

Participants at the Teaching Research Ethics Workshop are responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements.

Please note that most of Indiana (including Bloomington) is on Eastern Daylight Time during the Teaching Research Ethics Workshop.


Lodging

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), where the workshop will be held. Information current as of December 2008.

  • Price per night: $89-119 plus 11% hotel tax depending on the size of the room and the number of occupants.
  • Reservations required by April 10, 2009. When you make your reservation, please make sure to mention that you are with the Teaching Research Ethics Workshop.
  • Comments: The IMU is a comfortable hotel and the site of the meeting. There are several places to eat in the Union as well as the IU Bookstore, pool tables, a bowling alley, a fitness room, and free wireless computing for hotel guests -- and that's just a sample. If you cannot stay at the Union, or choose not to, we suggest the following close accommodations:

Grant Street Inn, 310 N. Grant, Bloomington IN 47408, (812) 334-2353.

  • The Grant Street Inn is a historic house that has been converted into a bed and breakfast. Just a few blocks from the IMU, it makes for a very nice five to ten minute walk (when the weather cooperates). Very comfortable rooms in a charming setting.

Courtyard by Marriott, 310 S. College Avenue (3rd & College), Bloomington IN 47403, (812) 335-8000.

  • The Courtyard by Marriott is about a mile from the IMU (about a 20 minute walk), located two block from the square in downtown Bloomington.

Hilton Garden Inn, 245 N. College (7th & College), Bloomington IN 47404, (812) 331-1335.

  • The Hilton Garden Inn opened in spring 2006. It's about a mile from the IMU and is located a block north of the square.

Note: If you are not staying at the Union, there is a fee for parking in the Union lot.


Travel

By air

Bloomington's nearest airport with commercial service is Indianapolis International (IND). Please allow two hours before and after your flight for travel between Bloomington and Indianapolis.

From the Indianapolis airport to Bloomington. We know of the following services; reservations recommended at least three days in advance. Listed rates are for one person and do not include gratuity. Information current as of December 2008 .

  • Bloomington Shuttle Service (800) 589-6004 or (812) 332-6004 $25 each way. 9 trips per day; call for schedule and drop-off points or see http://www.bloomingtonshuttle.com.
  • Classic Touch Limousines (800) 319-0082 or (812) 339-7269 $48 one-way, $78 round-trip. Door-to-door service. For more information: http://www.classictouchlimo.com/main.html. Please note that the standard fare for Classic Touch is for shared rides, so you may have to wait for another passenger to arrive before departing for Bloomington. You can have the limo to yourself, and possibly a quicker getaway, for an extra fee.

To find your shuttle or limo, follow the signs to the baggage claim area on the airport's first level. After retrieving your baggage, look for the signs to the "Ground Transportation Center" (GTC). Inside the GTC, tell the person at the appropriate desk that you have made a reservation for a ride to Bloomington or call from the appropriate phone.

By car. Here are directions to the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), which is where the workshop will be held:

From the north:
From I-70, almost immediately exit ontoI-465 south (the loop around Indianapolis), exit to State Road 37 southbound. Stay on SR37 for about forty miles. Take the first Bloomington exit to College Avenue. Continue on College for several miles until you get to Seventh Street. Turn left and follow Seventh through downtown Bloomington and onto the IU campus. You will pass Indiana, Fess, and Park Avenues (in that order), and then stop at a four-way stop at Woodlawn. Go one more block, to the next four-way stop, and turn right into the IMU parking lot.
From the south:
Take State Road 37 northbound past the Smithville exit until you reach Walnut Street. Continue north on Walnut until you reach Seventh Street. Turn right and follow Seventh through downtown Bloomington and onto the IU campus. You will pass Indiana, Fess, and Park Avenues (in that order), and then stop at a four-way stop at Woodlawn. Go one more block, to the next four-way stop, and turn right into the IMU parking lot.
From the west:
Take State Road 46 eastbound into Bloomington. Turn right on College Avenue. Continue on College for several miles until you get to Seventh Street. Turn left and follow Seventh through downtown Bloomington and onto the IU campus. You will pass Indiana, Fess, and Park Avenues (in that order), and then stop at a four-way stop at Woodlawn. Go one more block, to the next four-way stop, and turn right into the IMU parking lot.
From the east:
Take State Road 46 westbound into Bloomington, where SR46 become Third Street. Continue until you reach Indiana Avenue; turn right. Take Indiana for a few blocks to Seventh Street; turn right. You will pass Fess and Park Avenues (in that order), and then stop at a four-way stop at Woodlawn. Go one more block, to the next four-way stop, and turn right into the IMU parking lot.
