Comments from previous Teaching Research Ethics Workshop participants

Here are a few select comments from workshop evaluations. You can also read a longer list of comments arranged by workshop year.

  • One of the best experiences I've had!

  • Overall, I believe this is an excellent program - it would take too much time to mention all the good stuff.

  • I thought I would never understand [ethical theory] and now [I] do.

  • The amount of information/resources for future reference will be the most helpful, along with the contact with participants and lecturers.

  • What was of tremendous value was the exposure to discussion on teaching in general. As a bench scientist by training, but on faculty for nine years, I've never had discussion on teaching techniques with my peers. Because this is a multidisciplinary audience, it was a rich environment in which to learn about teaching in general.

  • I really enjoyed that the workshop was well-timed, it was relevant to scientists, it was not a moral or religious talk but a talk about ethics. Important for me was the case studies and that some of the speakers did talk about rules. Although grey areas were explored, there were resolutions.

  • Inspiring to be with such a broad group thinking about similar issues.

  • The informal approach and discussions were great. I enjoyed the thought process that was part of everything as it helped me be more objective and thoughtful in my thinking.

  • Effective training in research ethics must be on-going, pervasive, and part of the institutional culture. This message came through several speakers and as a recurrent theme, it was enlightening.

  • The only workshop I've went to in a long time where I went to every session!

  • Overall I really enjoyed this workshop as a resource for developing my curriculum and meeting people who may assist me (vice versa) in the future. I liked the model of "teaching the teachers".

  • Great organization. Speakers and topics were excellent. Great group of participants.

  • The speakers were excellent and the topics were well chosen. The cohort of participants also made it a very stimulating conference as a number of them had interesting contributions to make.

  • I very much appreciated Ken's keeping things on time, having plenty of time for discussion, and good length breaks - it made it easy to feel relaxed as a participant. I also appreciated the professionalism of the whole course as well as the positive and respectful atmosphere/attitude that everyone communicated.

  • I appreciate everyone's hard work and dedication - the efforts will make a difference!!!
